Mauser C96, 9mm Export, A Suffix, British Proofing.
Desirable Pre-War Commercial Mauser C96, all matching and well documented, with "a" suffix, British proofing and in the desirable 9mm Export. SN: 88742a. Cal: 9mm Export. Extensive British proof house marking under the barrel with emphasis on 9mm caliber. Smaller Crown/BNP on left side of barrel extension. The full serial number or the last three digits are repeated on the sight bar, bolt stop, bolt, hammer, subframe and frame. Disassembly shows a grooved follower as correct for the 9mm cartridge. All matching parts including each of the original walnut grip panels. Lanyard ring present. Condition: Approximately 85-90% original rust blue with usual wear under barrel, sharp edges, and the front and backstraps that have largely toned from handling. Comparable or better condition fire blue small parts and strawed trigger that show no evidence of enhancement. Grips with scattered handling dings retain much original varnish. Dull bore with shallow rifling. Perfect manual mechanics. Exact pistol referenced in classic "System Mauser" text on pages 118, 119. One of the more desirable C96s with an interesting serial number, history, and in a great caliber! A HISTORIC INVESTMENT!
