Remington No3, Hepburn, Match Rifle. #A-1215
A very attractive and scarce Remington No 3 Hepburn, Match rifle with set trigger and Swiss style competition buttplate. SN: 8936. Cal: .32-40B. Standard action Remington No 3 with 32” round (7/8” diameter)/octagon barrel marked on the top “REMINGTON ARMS CO. LION, NY”. The bottom of the barrel, under the flat, is marked “6472” and with serial number “8936”. The caliber appears ahead of the forearm “32.40.B” (presumably for the Bullard cartridge case). Globe front sight with Vernier tang sight. Left side of receiver is faintly marked “Hepburn Pat/Oct 7th 1879”. Case colored action with double set triggers and rebounding hammer. Walnut forearm with chrome plated tip and two filled holes for palm rest attachment. Swiss match style buttstock with cheekpiece ON RIGHT SIDE FOR LEFT HANDED SHOOTER having exaggerated metal buttplate chromed to match the forend tip. Oval silvered nameplate on cheekpiece with initials “F.A.A.”. Weight is 8lbs 7oz. Condition: Receiver with 60-70% original faded case colors. Barrel VG with original blue faded as seen in images. Excellent wood furniture with original varnish, few lightly scattered handling dings. Bright bore with strong rifling. Perfect manual mechanics. A very attractive and usual Remington No 3 that was seldom made for a left handed shooter. A HISTORIC INVESTMENT!
