Colt 1860 Army, Factory Cased Set, Documented.
Fabulous cased set of Colt, 2nd generation, 1860 Army revolvers, matching numbers with stock and accoutrements, elaborately engraved, 1 of only 40 sets with full factory documentation. SN: US2961/2961US. Cal: .44. Extremely scarce and super embellished cased set of US Calvary Commemoratives. Class A vine scroll engraving on barrels; Class B engraving on frames and stock mounts. Wolf head motif on hammers. Revolvers are each inscribed “1 of 40” with 24 carat gold inlay on the frame. Flush 24 carat gold band at muzzle and breach of barrel. High polish blued barrel, cylinder and backstrap. Brilliant color case hardening on loading lever, frame and hammer. Silver blade front sights, brass trigger guards, walnut grips and hanging tags. Fitted in walnut case with brass label and blue velvet interior. Shoulder stock fitting, bullet mold and nipple wrench with complimentary engraved accents. Colt marked container for percussion caps. Key. Two page factory letter dated September 2008 confirming special order shipment from 1979. Supplemental page supports limited 1/40 set production and levels of engraving. Pistols were apparently returned to the factory on two occasions, no added details. Condition: The set is as new. As evident from the closeups, cylinder scene is sharply detailed and neither revolver has a trace cylinder ring. There is no sharp edge wear or areas of thinning. Same condition applied to all components including an unblemished and now protected factory letter. An absolutely and phenomenal and super rare set reflecting the best and arguably the most desirable of Colt’s black powder series. A HISTORIC INVESTMENT!
